AND keeping the birds contained in a secure area.
The Energsier The Gemini energiser from Hotline now comes with a
5yr warranty and gives the option to power your kit from the mains or from a 12v leisure battery and therefore the freedom to move your pen around or adapt it in future. It comes with connection cables to run your energiser from a 12v battery (not supplied) and also with a mains adapter. Please note that the energiser must be housed indoors when run from the mains and if the electric net is to be some distance away you will need insulated lead-out cable to connect the energiser to the electric netting and to the earth stake. Should you wish this cable, please be aware that it is a single core cable and should be cut into two lengths. One length to go from the unit to the fence and the other from the unit to the earth stake so please take this into condideration when choosing your cable length
The Gemini 40 energiser is a 0.45 output joule fencer which is more than adequate to power a net of this size so even if there is a wee bit of leakage here and there like grass gowing into it or the net sags a bit, this unit has the reserves of power to cope. It won't push a pulse through a jungle but that bit extra oomph may come in more than handy. The Gemini energisers now have a 5 yr warranty and come with a stand to secure it ground the leads to connect the unit to a 12v battery or a mains socket and to fence & earth stake (when powering from a 12v battery). What's not included is a 12v leisure battery or insulated lead out cable should you wish to house the unit inside and power it from the mains.
The option is available at the top of the page to upgrade the energiser to a larger model if you'd like greater power protecting your chickens. A higher powered model also gives you the flexibility to extend your chicken run in future by adding more nets.
The Net The 110cm tall electric netting is one of our 50m chicken nets which are excellent quality and give terrific protection to your birds. This netting has 12 horizontal lines with the top 11 being electrifiable. The bottom line just sits on the grass and remains unpowered. All these lines meet up at each end of the net from where they run up the end posts and form into a couple of tails. These tails have clips on them so you can join several fencing nets together or a
net gate. The gaps between the horizontal lines are very small at the bottom (only 5cm high) so even very young birds won't escape and they get slightly larger as the netting gets higher. The net is supported by 15 posts that are already in situ but they can be moved up or down the fenceline if need be and more can be added if you find you need more.
We include a
1m long earth stake with this kit. As earthing accounts for around 85% of an electric fences efficiency, a good earth is essential for keeping your net up to full power and protecting your chickens from hungry foxes so we include a long stake.
An upgrade to have your poultry fencing kit with a double spiked net is available and we'd recommend this to anyone who's pen is to be an irregular shape or has curved edges as the spikes have a far better grip on the ground than single spikes.
We'll also enclose a voltage tester so you know your fence is working fine.
Extra Strong Corner Posts You may also like our extra strong corner posts (seen
here which provide excellent support for the corners of the netting and can provide a gateway too. While the flexiposts used throughout the net are fine for keeping the net supported they are not as robust at keeping the netting taught at the corners so some customers have used these with excellent results. By adding these
EXTRA THICK & DOUBLE SPIKED POSTS to the corners they considerably help keeping the poultry netting from sagging. Also by putting an additional extra strong post about 1m from the end, you can open and close your electric net without releasing any tension anywhere along the line.
Gate Should you wish a gate with your kit, then we have two on available both both being operated while the fence is live. Firstly the Hotline Hotgate is a short length of gate which allows with an end post in a socket. You can unclip the end post with an insulated handle and move it to one side to gain access.
